436 & 536 screen brightness

Im just curious, cause i have no other scanner's to look at locally, i just got a new 436 today, serial # 5800613x, and to me the screen seems pretty dim, my 536, is much brighter IMO, than the 436 on the same settings, for anybody that has both, can you tell me, if they usually have the same brightness? Seems my 536 is more of a white color on High, and my 436 seems to be more of a blueish color, and its much darker and harder to see, to me my 436 on HIGH, is comparable to my 536 on med setting, or maybe low, its just not "Bright" like i would expect. I dont have another to compare to, so i dont know. I would take a picture to compare the 536 and 436 side by side, but the camera makes them both look bright, and the same looking.

Blu-ish? Sounds like it has the backlight issue. The fixed ones are a creamy off-white color.

yeah, i can see what your saying, i was under impression they had them all fixed by now, even the newer serial #'s, guess not..its for sure not the color as my 536, its like you said, more of a white color, whereas the 436 is bluish

I've read of some newer SNs that had the blue tint. I don't know if they got a new batch of blu-ish LEDs that don't fade, or if they accidentally used a batch that might, or what.

Uniden has really dropped the ball on this scanner. i am sitting here wanting to order one, but can't makes heads or tails out of this. seems to me, the "dimmer" display is the "fixed" one. i just cant pull the trigger on a $500 scanner IF I am going to have to deal with sending it back to uniden for a "fix" (which means a dim display). shame on Uniden!!!!!

yeah, i asked others to look at it, and they said it was more of a Tan looking color, so probally is the new screen, Thanks all.

I like the one on the right too. My 436 is like that and I hope it stays there.Got one of my 536's at shop to fix the dim situation and then my mobile there too to fix it depending on how it looks.

The one on the left looks like it needs the contrast adjusted. When you have the LED issue on the right one, it will be MUCH less readable than the one on the left.

So, would you rather have one that starts brighter, or one that stays brighter? My personal preference is the latter. I also find that my newer style is more easy to read than the older one (UNLIKE what the picture shows - hence my statement that it looks like the left needs adjusted).

thanks for posting this. this is the BEST comparison I have seen. also, it's real data. i like the one on the RIGHT (new), but, if i get the fixed one, and I dont look at pics of the older with issues, i wont know the difference. i just want one i wont have to send to Uniden. they sure dropped the ball on what could easily be one of the best scanners ever.

Also there have been 436 comparison pics since the start of the repair campaign.
But, that pic does not show the adjustment issue of the above pic. I still say the one above appears to have an issue.

Screen looks tannish to me, and others have told me I look kind of a tannish yellow color, people are saying that is the new screen… So I don't know, I'm happy with jt

Yes, the newer ones (or at least some of them) are that same tan color, but they are much more readable than the one in your pic.
