I had lightning hit my computer and 436hp the other day. Killed both of them. The 436hp was hooked to an outside antenna. I had other scanners running in the same shed as these and it didn't hurt them. They were all connected to a ups supply. Would it be worth a shot to send it to uniden to see if it's fixable or is it most likely fried?

It’s $89.95 flat for Uniden to look at it…if it can’t be fixed it will be shipped back to you. Does it work at all? Enuf to do a hard reset? Anything?

Battered and fried probably! Sounds like a waste of $90 to hear that from the Uniden techs…but it’s your call! I think an email or fone call to Ft Worh is in order! I don’t know if that $$ will get it replaced? Others may know…

They said the same as you have. $89 just to look at it. I figure I'll just end up buying a new one.

It won't power on at all. Not with batteries either.
If you send it in for repair, for $89.95, and Uniden says it cannot be repaired, they’ll either return it to you, or offer a discount price for a replacement.

If you did not see the ‘magic smoke’ coming out of the scanner, they may repair it. No guarantees that will happen, but they usually repair units with damage to the display, which is not a cheap repair. The final decision is, of course, is up to you, but if it was my scanner, I’d probably give it a shot.

Ah, I didn't know that. I wasn't out in the shed when the lightning hit so I don't know if it smoked or not.I did take it apart and I didn't see any places that looked burnt.

Good info Steve…discount on a new one is nice, of course you’ve already spent $90 to get to that point!

Sell it for parts and put the money to a new scanner. We have lots of lightning down here, and my friends advise me that even if a radio is fixable, they may develop problems later that didn't show up immediately.

Just my 2 cents.

Better check the antennae ground before you hook anymore scanners to it. I'd re-think running the stock one. Just saying...

There is a small surface mounted fuse in the area of the pwr supply that may be the issue if you see no evidence of anything burnt or in pieces, I wish I could give you the exact location but it evades my memory. you will need a magnifying glass but just check around the area with a voltmeter....you may just luck up

I had a br330 t that was overpowered. Not by lightning but wrong power supply. I got lucky and it was a capacitor inside that blew apart. Its part of the power circuit and was a surface mount component. I got lucky.
