I was just wondering who exactly uses 45.880. I know that it is used for fire comms, but is it used for comms between fire truck to fire truck, or is it used for comms between one counties fire dispatch station to another counties fire dispatch station.

Any help would be much appreciated

It's the inter county Emergency Communication Frequency / Mutual Aid Fire. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control ( OFPC ) uses it as F-1.
County Control to County Control / County Control to County Coordinators.

EJM is correct. Also, I have heard OFPC mobile units calling county dispatch centers on 45.88 in the capital area.

In the Western part of the state, 45.880 is used for county to county fire dispatch communications. No mobiles use the channel what so ever. It is only for one dispatch center to call another. All mutual aid fire ground commuications then use 46.220. If one county uses low band example Livingston County and they go into Monroe (VHF) or Genesee (800) they will use a radio patch to link to two different communications systems. Hope this helps you from the Western Part of the state.

In the southeast part of the state, it is monitored by all the county control centers and is called/labeled "Intercounty" on the consoles. You'll hear "Orange to Ulster on 45.88." I know 36 Control (Orange), 44 (Rockland), 56 (Ulster), Dutchess 911 and 60 (Westchester) all have it. I think Dutchess County has their transmitter on Clove Mountain. I know Fire Coordinators have it in Orange County in the mobiles as well and I've heard an Orange County Coordinator call an accident into Rockland County on it. He actually stated to the dispatcher he had no cell phone coverage (Palisades Parkway area).

44-Control used to use it to call 60-Control all the time for StatFlight requests or incidents on the TZ Bridge. Not sure how much use it gets these days, I don't listen to it.

Dutchess 911 45.88 transmitter is on clove mountain and also at the 911 center in Poughkeepsie. Ulster and Dutchess use it all the time to request ambulance to hospital patches and other mutual aid requests. It is not installed in any mobiles or portable in Dutchess as far as I know except for the Coordinators and the Field Comm Van.

In Columbia County 45.88 is used much the same way, however it is also installed in almost every fire mobile and portable and is used for intercounty mutual aid unit to unit and unit to control comms.

Hope this helps,

Yes that is correct. All Western Ny Dispatch Centers monitor 45.880. I no this is true until you reach Syracuse. I can not pick up farther than that, but Syracuse west yup every center monitors it
