On the MSU and East Lansing Police 460.375 dispatch channel how do you distinguish which unit talking is from which department (Unit Numbers for MSU and East Lansing).

East Lansing units begin with the number 2, followed by the type of unit (ADAM=One Man, BOSTON=Two Man, CHARLIE=Community Policing, DAVID=Detective, MARY=Motorcycle, BIKE=Bicycle, or K9) then thier sector number. Example 2Adam31 would be an East Lansing one man car in sector 3.
MSU units begin with the number 6, followed by the type of unit as stated above, then thier badge number since they don't have sectors. Example 6K947 would be an MSU K9 unit, badge #647.
If you hear MSU talking on thier tactical channel for special events they just use badge numbers, which are all in the 600 series.
This numbing scheme is also the same for Meridian Twp police on 460.1 as they are also dispatched by the East Lansing Communication Center, but all of thier units begin with the number 9.

Lansing is similar to East Lansing but their designators are shift+unit type+district. Example 2ADAM16 is a 2nd shift one man unit in district 16. 1BOSTON9 would be a 1st shift two man car in district 9. If they have more than one car working in a district, the 2nd car uses the unit designator Ida. Example 3IDA4 would be a 3rd shift one man unit working as the 2nd car in district 4. I belive they actually have the geographical districts on the department web site if you are curious.
LPD Sergeants use the series 3xx and detectives are 4xx.
