I travel and let my Uniden 436/536/sds100 scanners record whatever is in the area. while traveling thru Michigan in 2018, i picked up the attached recordings.

reviewing my findings i searched RR and there is no Michigan hits for that freq and pl. was this a frequency of a Police dept that migrated to the state system?

if so can anyone tell me who this was?

i attached my recordings for review. these were heard in Lansing and quite strong. i also have recordings of this freq/pl while traveling thru battle creek, but those are very weak, so i didnt include.

It’s Eaton County Central Dispatch. Grand Ledge, mentioned in the recordings is in Eaton County. I also recognize the dispatchers voice. They would have still been on their conventional UHF system in 2018, so it all adds up.
so they arent on there any more? if they are still, was central dispatch both pd and fd?

They have entirely abandoned their UHF system for the MPSCS, including fire and EMS. Even paging is handled on the MPSCS.

I’m not intimately familiar with their old arrangements, but the Lansing area (Eaton/Ingham/Clinton) counties used to be a sort of “GE” island. Eaton had conventional UHF, Ingham had an Analog EDACS and Clinton had a hybrid analog/provoice EDACS system if I remember correctly. It was neat to go into Eaton and Clinton Co. Dispatch and see GE Maestro dispatch consoles.

All of the counties mentioned have gone all in on the MPSCS to my knowledge.

Maybe take another trip there since your talking about operations from 6 years ago and things may have changed since then..

cool! thanks for sharing your history :)
That dispatchers voice would be me. We switched to MPSCS P25 in February of 2020. I don't miss the UHF days, tons of dead spots after narrowbanding.
I remember the old days when everything in the County was on 460 MHZ range .
My Uncle in law was a Sargent at Sterling Hgts the 80' and 90'S Skip from Ohio was so bad it would cover up local Freqs .
some under cover in the county still used 39.900 mhz for work .

Ingham also had ProVoice capability. These counties still maintain most of their licenses for their UHF stuff but most of the equipment is gone. Michigan State University still has some analog UHF stuff left over, the MEDCOM repeaters are still monitored but barely ever used, and East Lansing PD still maintains their old old UHF repeater despite an expired license but that’s it for the whole 3 counties.

MSU PD still has some of the old Harris/GE/whatever radios and I get to play with them sometimes.
