Been hearing keyups on 461.675 PL 127.3 in the Fan district of Richmond for about the past 20 minutes. No voice or anything else, just somebody keying the repeater. A quick FCC database search turns up a possibility (probability?) of it being related to St. Mary's hospital...but that doesn't match their tone of 186.2...and I rarely hear anything on the St. Mary's UHF freqs (the ones listed in the database, Henrico County, not Richmond City).

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knows what this could be?

St. Marys has gone through a number of changes, and it's hard to know what capabilities they're retaining:

At first, they were simplex on 464.000 with the paging system, using a 167.9 PL to keep the radios quiet.

They then moved to 461.675 [127.3], and used that for quite a while.

Now they've had a real alligator on 464.475 [186.2] for some years. I can actually hear this repeater in northern Dinwiddie County.

There's a new license for 453.000 now, so who knows what the future holds? Keep your ears open.

Edit - I turned the scanner on here at work (v/close to St. Marys). Heard unit 11, which is definitely security. Maintenance guys start numbering in the 50's I think, so we'll have to see if they show up too. Frankly, I never understood the move to 464.475. It already had another hospital, a shopping mall and an amusement park who were busily using it before St. Marys put up that flamethrower of theirs. Gotta do laundry tonight just a couple of blocks from them. Will guard all these freqs and see what else is revealed.

What is the attraction of 453.0000 Mhz.? It sure is a popular frequency. I hope St. Mary's does not interfere with the exciting comms of the Waste Management trucks coming and going at the Sussex Co. Landfill.

I dunno, John. But it appears that the move to 461.675 is complete and 464.475 is either retired or in reserve. I work very close to the hospital and have not heard a peep on 453.000 Maybe they were just thinking out loud when they applied for the freq<g>. Or maybe they monitored and found Commtronics LTR on 453.0125. Either way, I never understood why they left 461.675 the first time.
