I own a UNiden 5.8 ghz digital cordless phone now unplugged
Someone was listening in on my calls as which i have strong evidence of this and not on a scanner as far as i know.
I heard at times like someone picking up an extension and never questioned this to the other person i was talking to.
Is it possible for someone with the same phone if they have it not plugged into a phone jack to randomly pick up and hear my calls?
I feel this was the case.
I called my local landline company out to test my line,i live in a high rise apartment building
my line downstairs in the phone room was clear with no crossed wires and he went through my apartment
stopping at my cordless and convinced me that was the problem and i believe him and quit using it.
Is it possible for someone with the same phone to do this?
Thank you for any feedback on this

NO they can not listen in, unless like some some 5.8ghz phones that have the handsets in the 900mhz range that can be overheard on a scanner & def NO if phone isn't plugged in

Without question, any telephone conversation can be monitored in the U.S. No telephone is 100% secure.

With This and a cassette recorder, it is very easy to record all conversations on a phone line, and the control and recorder can be anywhere in the house on the same line.

If your cordless phone is so old, or so cheap that it does not require a handset to be registered with the base, get rid of it.

Read the FCC Part 15 warning label on the bottom of the base unit. Carefully note the wording of the label that specifically says "Privacy of communications may not be ensured when using this phone." This wording is required by Section 15.214(c) of FCC Rules & Regs.

It's not like you weren't warned ahead of time. No matter how slim the possibility of being monitored due to advances in technology, if an RF device transmits at all, it's safe to assume those transmissions will be received and monitored by someone.

Good luck.

If you're hearing the sound of someone picking up another extension its possible that someone has acutally placed an extension on your physical line, either in your apartment building's main phone junction or somewhere between the junction and one of your jacks.

This is actually a pretty easy thing to do. An adjacent apartment may have accessed your pairs directly through the wall. Or someone could just be hooking up a lineman's handset or a beige box to the building's TNI. If your lines go outside the building, or if there are external TNIs on the outside of the building for specific lines then someone could be listening in from the outside.

You should be able to get a list of calls made from your phone number to verify if someone is "sharing" the line. As far as another handset, most handsets must be affiliated with the base, or it won't give a dial tone. However, if someone entered your apartment and affiliated a handset on your base, they could do exactly what you are describing. Maybe a lockset change instead of a phone change?

If the phone has the intercom option like most Unidens do simply go into that option and see how many handsets are registered on the system, if you see one you don't know about well then you know.
Most of the newer Unidens are pretty secure using digital FHSS technology.
Another thing those 5.8 GHz phones really have a very limited range take your handset and go out of your Apt with it and see how far you can get from the base and still have it working.

I will repeat Sig-Int's statement. No phone is 100% secure. Even the secure phones in the White House, AF1, the Pentagon and elsewhere.

Given the proper equipment, time and such (a friend like John Walker would be especially helpful here) any communication can be monitored.

Why do you think the NSA spends hundreds of millions of dollars on their computer systems?

The monitoring may not be real time, but it is possible to break any encrypted message.

You may have a "john walker" there lol

Hey, I have a question for you mike6454 . Does this cordless phone have the option to allow more than one handset with a code you enter through a compatible handsets LCD? If so, do you know of any one that might have gone through your cordless phone's handset menu???? There by knowing the code..

Some 5 GHZ phones can be heard and other's can't. Always makes sure it's full DSS.

RE;5.8ghz cordless

yes,it has the option to add more handsets as well as a code which i never changed.
And the most likely suspects are building staff as this could be done while im gone from my apartment
as well several months back my DSL speed dropped from 7.0 to 1.23 i put up with it for about a month then called
Phone company tech support and they ruled everything out except line trouble and
a tech came out the next moring and was let into a secured phone room by head maintenance man
when the tech came back up he was very confused and clearly stated that something was not right down there and said he put new wiring on my line but still something was bothering him,of course i never thought to ask what that something was all he said is that the maintenance guy told him this was an really old building and the wiring was really old, this was the 1st time the tech was ever here in this building, actually this building was built in 1979 so its not all that old,
I have called the phone company back to request to talk to that tech and ask what it was that was not right but the phone company will not cooperate. What little he did down there that day brought my speed up to 6.0 then after that is when i heard the picking up of a handset intermittently.
Since i unplugged the cordless i think i have privacy on my corded but not 100%
6 months ago i threatened litigation against the management so i guess since they all stick together and have access not only to the phone room as well as my apartment im pretty screwed.
Of course im planning on moving however i sure would like to give them some stress before i leave
anyone have any ideas that are not illegal?
I do have a set of UHF FRS 22ch portables and they occupy ch 5 on that UHF band.

Actually I just looked up my cordless phone manual and at the back it lists the frquencies.
The handset is at 5.8GHz but the Base is 900MHz. I assume most are like these
