5-City Radio System Lorain

Hello all,
Ive noticed the city of Lorain has transformed over to the 5 city radio system. I have a Uniden 396xt was just wondering if I was doing something wrong or what. Ive downloaded the files using radio reference and dont get anything. Mean while I can pick Ohio state patrol VIA there trunked system.

Maybe my scanner is a little bit to old.

That system uses TDMA which the 396XT is not capable of.

You’ll need a scanner capable of receiving Phase 2 systems.

Lorain Police and Lorain Fire are still on there normal VHF freqs...
But both of them are also patched into the 5-City system...
I can hear them on both systems...

Well it does look like Lorain Police did switch over fully to the 5-City System and not using 155.25 anymore...
Did hear the Fire Dept still today on 154.355 though...

Just heard Lorain Fire dept (6:36pm)... They appear to still be patched to the 5-City...
Hear them on both systems...

You need to buy one and program it with the talkgroups for the 5city system and use software.

The 5-City System is Simulcast... The 325 can have problems with Simulcast systems...
I see your listed as in Elyria... I don't no were in Elyria you are but if your close to LCCC you may have a chance to hear them...
One of the 5-City systems sites/towers is located at the 911 call center thats just south of LCCC... If you drive south on Abbe Rd you will
see the tower...

I was able to hear them with my HP-2 sitting in the colleges south parking lot... That put me at under 1000ft from the tower though...
I never did see how far I could get from the tower before my HP-2 would be affected by Simulcast...

You may need an SDS100 or SDS200 to hear them...

I am about 4-5 miles south from LCCC and can pick them up with my BCD436HP without a problem. I cannot with the same antenna pick them up with the TRX-2. I can get it with the TRX-2 but need to play with antenna position almost daily so gave up on that.

I have no issues using a TRX-1. 3 miles from Litchfield.
