536 not picking up good

I have tried working with it but the strength and the pickup power are no ?.

Start with the antenna, do you have options available? Different whips or an external antenna? Is there any difference between the signal with an antenna on or off? If not, I'd open it up and inspect the antenna connection to make sure it hasn't broken or that the solder hasn't seperated from the board.

The Bearcat BCD-536 is a great base scanner. Do you have the radio programmed correctly? Did you look up Chester, IL on Radioreference.com to see the police/fire frequencies and make sure nothing is encrypted? Who programmed this scanner for you and were was it purchased. Also, make sure you have the latest software update.

I have all the channels from around here it just seems like it not picking up as it did.

Can you provide a qualitative description of "not picking up as it did"?

Check antenna connection;
Has someone shortened or lengthened the antenna;
Did someone move it close to a computer or other source of potential RF energy;
Is the Attenuator on;
Have you tried returning it to the factory settings...

These are some basics that could affect reception.

Have you tried menu>WX Operation>Weather Scan? Most areas of the country have a weather service transmitter. That's always a good first step for diagnosing a reception issue.
