I am new to scanning but enjoying my 536. I have programmed my fav list 1 thru 8 with limited issues being a newbie. Learning by reading here making mistakes and trying again. In Illinois and just want a qk for p25 statewide system to monitor IDNR area one and area 2. I put in the statewide system p25 and appended the site to idnr 1 and 2 and then deleted everything else not monitored in the same p25 site. I have set for qk9 shows up on list to monitor but says nothing to scan. I have figured out most but this one is killing me. I have the same trunk system monitoring on qk3 and 5 for police and fire respectively. Tried localized and distant zip codes and have services selected correctly. I have the largest roof top antenna available so signal is not a issue. the site is starcom21. IDNR 1 and 2 Thanks in advance for any help or guidance as where I went wrong.

Thanks for the checklist but didnt work so far.

Now I cant even get the favorite list qk status to appear in the scanner. But in lists to monitor it shows up. This is now really becoming a challenge! I think I need to read more and keep trying? Now I am second guessing myself. I even compared my settings on the same trunk system for police and fire and they work fine.

okay now I am narrowing it down I think. If I put a conventional in not a trunk site the qk returns and scans what selected but p25 site is not scanning at all. I have tried location on and off. have tried search id on and off? I know to the experts out there this is easily solved but I am having issues and am having fun trying to solve and understand this.

Search ID is something for trunked systems, so it shouldn't have any effect on conventional only.

Kinda thinking the Favorites List might be a little funky. Can you export it to an HPE file, send it to a zipped folder and post that zip file? We might be able to see what's up.

They will be at the bottom of the list in Sentinel.

If you click on one it shows the frequency. You will need to determine which one(s) to load.

you are right, I understand, so I need to find the correct site with frequencies but the IDNR in Illinois shows TGID and I don't understand where I would find the frequencies associated with them. for them.

TGIDs are not associated with a specific frequency. In general, any TGID can appear on any frequency on a site. You have to have at least one site programmed in order to scan a system (you should pick a site or sites that are near where you are).

Thank you all for helping me! UpMan thanks for all the learning videos u post, I certainly has helped me get back into scanning again. I have a lot to learn since I haven't scanned in 25 years. I also need to read more hear about these guys listening to talk groups? I guess there is no secret you try pick sites and see what happens? Is that a correct statement? Thanks to all the responded to me, hopefully I will get better with playing with my scanner. Yes newbies are a pain. Will be getting a 436 soon after I get better with the 536. best regards to all.

One thought would be to leave Location Control Off for a while. You can see which sites your scanner receives. It's possible that you can receive several. After noting which are within range, you can fine tune your Favorites List accordingly.

Alternatively you can set the Range on your scanner to 50.0 and listen. You can then gradually step the range down to that which gives you the most desirable listening.

All is good now.... One last Question then moving on.

Gentleman, Thank you all for your help. I did a combination of things everyone suggested one at a time and a combination of a few. Along the path of testing I learned quite a bit. The more I play with this 536 the more I am loving it. One post to me mentioned that TGID can come from any site ? Is that really true?
No one site controls the TGID frequencies or listed anywhere in RR ?

TGs are system-wide. No one Site controls any TGs (per se). It's all controlled in the System controller.

I thought I was on the right track leaving only the departs on I wanted and avoided all others. Then I picked sites within a 75 mile range of my base location and avoided all the rest. Are u saying I could just pick one site close and or a repeater(simulcast ) site and every TG would work?
