Well This issue has got worse since the Firmware upgrade.. I was able to get around the issue by changing from NFM to FM. Now I get the same problem in both modes.. Im at a loss now.

Here is a video.. Continued P25 issues on BCD536HP - YouTube

The clear audio is coming from the Pro197 on bottom and the hiss is coming from the BCD536HD with the "Audio Type" set to "All" (obviously a digital transmission in analog) to show that I am receiving a signal. The 536HD just isn't processing it (should switch to "Digital" automatically in "All"). If I set "Audio Type" to "Digital" then the 536HD just acts like it never received a transmission at all.

This is really annoying and I am sure its just as annoying to Uniden and I hope they get this worked out.

That, my friend, is a pretty damning video representation of a rather serious problem :(

And, that is on Phase 1, as is evident by the excellent audio coming from that ancient (in technological terms) PSR600 :)

You would think that after 10 years or more of making P25 trunking scanners, Uniden would at least be able to nail run-of-the-mill Phase 1. But apparently not.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that has seen after the firmware update my P25 Phase II decoding has gotten as worse as it was before I made NFM to FM change that was suggested. I would really like to go back 1 firmware revision but I don't know how to accomplish that. When the NFM to FM change was suggested I also modified my Favorites List for my local area, Camden County Public Safety Trunking System, Camden County, New Jersey - Scanner Frequencies, to only scan the closest transmitter site. After I did that my reception was basically flawless. The only time I had garbled reception was at the same time that either the dispatcher or the unit in the field had the same problem.

As I stated above I am back to about 90% reception without being grabbled.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.1.2; en-us; LG-LS720 Build/JZO54K) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

Nr2d thats about what I get. But how do you have it scan just the nearest transmitter site? There is only 1 set of frequencies.

Stupid idea I know but those who have "Modified" their NFM to FM (NR2D) and then got the firmware fix, could said firmware fix now make the FM modification unnecessary and actually harmful?

I mean if it for instance fixed the issue then the scanner would need to be on its correct settings of NFM to work right so your interim fix might no longer work and actually cause problems now?

Yeah.....Nay.....

An idea but don't know if it will make any difference to anyone.

I tried it on both NFM and FM after the firmware upgrade and neither work now.

Did Uniden actually try the new firmware before releasing it?

I'm sure they did but probably for the items listed to fix. Strange we are seeing reports of degraded reception after the release. I'm sure they are looking at it now after these reports. We will see.

I think that is a honest question. Wouldn't they need a system to test it against? Just further strengthens some peoples argument that we as the customers are the testers. If they need a system to test it against I know of one just right down the road from them they can test it against. I mean in order for them to fix something, wouldn't they need to have something to test it against?

Probably the same people that beta tested the radios before the release.

Yes I think it goes without saying that after making any changes to the scanners firmware it would be tested. Having said that its also safe to assume that it would not have been tested on every system in both Canada and the US. :)

Well seeing where they are located and knowing the systems around them they would kind of need to replicate and experience the problem themselves in order to know if it was fixed was the point I was making.

This update addresses the following issues that were reported within the first few days of release:
Fixed an issue where starting of some vehicles caused the scanner's audio to stop working.
Fixed an issue that caused there to be a long "squelch tail" noise after some transmissions.
Fixed an issue where the backlight on squelch setting was not always working correctly.
Fixed an issue where the scanner would hang on a P25 control channel during conventional discovery.
Fixed an issue where the USB serial mode would stop working in some conditions.
Fixed an issue where DAT did not appear on the display while on a control channel.
Improved reported "crackling noises" on some P25 transmissions.

I think they may have just tested the above fixes but not some additional reports of missed transmissions, poor decoding since the release.

Good info! That pretty much explains that.

Perhaps poor Test Scripts and rush to market (against what competitor?) and like software of today is bloated in size as coding is sloppy due to vast amounts of memory...then, you throw is all the Beta elements that create massive variables....and subjective reasoning vs fact-data-based collection...

Thus, a simple slight say twist of a knob and you are chasing a "low volume" issue - as compared to what standard - oh - my other scanner...lol

Beta testing should ferret out the big issues and appears either testing was maginal or someone did-not want to hear the results perhaps...

Seen this too many times and it always worked fine in the climate controlled Lab...

Reference the "Fixed an issue where the USB serial mode would stop working in some conditions." and "Improved reported "crackling noises" on some P25 transmissions.issues. In my case it made both problems worse which I have mentioned several other times.
