Nice opening here on 6 today... question is, would it have been noticed if it weren't for Field Day?

I think so. Everyone here has a receiver scanning the
6 meter beacon segment of the band 24/7.

FB on that... good idea, 6 meter openings can be elusive. The opening here today was good for at least 4 hours. Did you catch it at your QTH?

Yes.. Most six meter die-hards have a radio with 50.125 Mhz on all the time. You can also spot openings on the DX clusters. I check this site a couple of times a day when I'm at home and have nothing better to do: --> QSO/SWL real time maps and lists

When six opens, it fills up pretty quickly.... More so than 10 meters.

The MFJ 9406 and a loop at 30' is my always on receiver! You can really hear the band start to open. Then the K3 and Moxon take over!!!!!
