When I initially saw this thread, I thought you meant you got that many notifications by email, but when you wrote the above, you seem to be referring to a specific place on the site. Where?

65,534 is the largest number you can display using a 16 bits, it is a very common number in computing (the hex being FFFE).

Clicking on the link shows that many "unread private messages", but, as I said earlier, no more than 50 msgs total. None unread.

Someone else had this problem a few years ago. IIRC it was someone from western Canada because he was participating in threads I was in. Perhaps mark2117? He has a similar quote to yours in post #6, stored as his signature block - but I can't recall how he got to that point and how it was resolved. I thought there was a thread discussing it, but it defies my attempts to locate it right now.

I suspect either WayneH or Lindsay will have to mess around with something.

Which browser are you using? Also, check your UserCP PM area and see if you have somehow gotten any extra folders besides "Inbox" and "Outbox".

Using IE 7.0.
Not saying this would help, but is there a reason you are not using IE 8?

My computer has been doing weird things of late. maybe something on my end....

The observation above about the number itself is somewhat interesting. Normally, if you have no unread PMs (or other things), the notice in the box does not have the phrase"Your Notifications" but rather it says "Private Messages: Unread 0, Total xxx". I am wondering if you have something strange in there which can only be displayed as that large number.

I normally don't feel the urge to upgrade to the latest/greatest version.

Interestingly enough, Shortly after reading & replying to a PM this morning, I now see this:
Welcome, kc4jgc.
You last visited: Yesterday at 9:34 AM
Private Messages: Unread 0, Total 43.

Right now, but still weird.

Yep. Kind of supports what I was thinking. I was thinking that some how your record included a negative number in the field, which would account for that big positive number as the only number it could put, since negative numbers are unexpected and invalid. I was going to send you a PM to see if it cleared it, but it looks like someone else took care of it.

That is exactly what happened. There are various scenarios in which this can occur (e.g. sending and receiving a PM simultaneously).
