Interesting. Thanks for that. Turns out there is a station a few hundred miles south of me in Long Island.

I don't have any good decoder for my computer (there are none, other than MultiMode as far as I know, which I have no money)
What traffic does it carry? I'm guessing it's aeronautical, but I could be wrong.

I just tried my decoder and it expired and I need to buy it so it's in the garbage can, sorry I can't help you with decoding.

This is New York on 6661 USB. HFDL can carry lots of different types of Aero traffic but is used mainly for position reports. Not all airlines use the system but many do. You may see all kinds of air/ground messages in the text. Charles Brain's program PC-HFDL(reasonably priced with free eval period) works great for decoding and can use Google Earth to plot positions of the aircraft in real time. There are several HFDL stations around the world and as conditions change, many can be received.

Im getting the data bursts at different signal strengths. Some bursts I am hardly able to hear while others come in like S-9+ and blow my ears off. There must be mutiple transmitting sites that are sounding.

Of course!

The local ground station sends his identifier in his allocated block. Aircraft will reply in sync with the ground station. They will be at varying distances and altitudes so the signal strength will vary from "blow-yer-socks-off" to almost nothing.

An earlier PC-HFDL is still available without the bells and whistles which doesn't 'time-expire'.

We have a reasonably complete list of stations and frequencies here; there likely has been some changes since the table was modified last year, but should still be mostly correct;

HFDL - The RadioReference Wiki

If someone would post the changes I can update the table Mike

That was for a Delta-owned (formerly Northwest) B-757, N593NW.
