It would take some patience and a lot tries to wait for good
listening conditions. But there is no reason why you should
not be able to hear them. If you have a portable SSB shortwave
radio take it outside away from the house and RFI. Also try
listening around the giving UTC 0158 time not your local time
in York.

Another trick is go to Shortwave info web site and look at the map of the world and wait for the time when York is at night time
at the same time the Gulf of Mexico is at night time. The best time is when York is on the edge of going dark (Gray Line).

That’s about 9.30 pm now it’s middle of the year

Has a friend said People don’t use h f for marine frequencies anymore

No worries, your friend is right but these fisherman are operating in the 43 meter band in the HF spectrum. Which is an interesting
band were a lot of pirate radio stations transmit along with the fisherman.

My speculation is they are all using out of band ham gear
with no licenses but that is just a guess. 😜
