70 MHz links for CHP Valley Division

I have found the 72 MHz link for Gold2 very useful for monitoring car-to-station traffic, since I can't always hear the repeater on Gold2 (44.620) or the officer on 42.380. I also sometimes hear the dispatcher on 75.960.

So far I have these two frequencies for the Sacramento area: 72.460 MHz CTCSS 146.2 (car-to-station link), and 75.960 MHz CTCSS 173.8 (dispatcher only, seems to only broadcast when a certain Gold2 site is active). Are there any 70 MHz links for Black2 or Blue2 in Sac?

I can hear two Chico 70 MHz links at my QTH of Olivehurst, CA.

72.800 156.7 from Oregon Peak & 72.980 179.9 from St. Johns.

OK, I found out which site 75.960 links to. "Radio service" was doing testing on the Gold and Black channels (they are currently testing on the Blue as I type this), and I saw 75.960 pop up on the display as they were testing the Pilot Peak site.

avtarsingh, did you ever find your list of other 70 MHz links? I am especially interested in the Black channel, as I don't know of a link for them.

72mhz CHP has been around forever. I found it one day by accident,
back in 1987, I'd just bought my brand new Realistic Pro-2004,
for $399.99 from the Radio Shack, at La Riviera Drive
and Folsom Boulevard. It seemed, most scanners wouldn't go
in that mhz area, they were blocked. The pro 2004, pretty much ran unblocked,
from 29.000Mhz. all the way to 1300Mhz. Cellular Frequencies were allot of fun
back then. The laugh's were pretty much, non stop.
Word got out, then they started blocking the newer 2004's from Cellular Frequencies.

Anyhow, Yeah, 72.460 was Gold and 72.980 Brown was Chico. You could
hear both sides, base/car, no problem. Now, for this trunking stuff, grrrr~!!! lol

Thanks guys. I'm not familiar with the whereabouts of all the mountains in the first list, but as far as I can tell it looks like the Sacramento area just has 70 MHz links for the Gold.

Those lists will come in handy for road trips though.

You could hear both car and base on 72.460 back then? Nice! Now you only hear the cars on that frequency.

Learning how to program a trunktracker is a labor of love. Most people who aren't hobbyists want nothing to do with programming nowadays. Besides, the old 453/460 MHz sheriff and PD frequencies we had until 1995 came in much better than this 800 crap. I hope rebanding solves the interference problems around cell towers.

Yes Sir Sacscan, you're absolutely right, the old 453 and 460 pounded~!~!
I mean, 453.9 sheriff north, heck, you could pick that up with no antenna
on your scanner, it flat blasted the roof off, anywhere you were in the valley.
453.575, hammered like nobody's business too~! I don't know why they
did this trunking 800 thing, I can't hardly pick them up, I mean I can, but
not with the fierce intensity, like 453sheriff and 460 sac pd had.. Maybe, the
county head honcho's received financial kickbacks on the re-banding.. Kinda like allocation,
don't use it, lose it~! Which in itself, is questionable. Yeah, fond memories
of 453 and 460, man~!!! those were the days~!!!
sac sheriff ch. 5 453.475 car to car and detectives, that used to
give us goosebumps picking up that channel, you knew they were close,
kinda like the chp extender freq. you know they're in your immediate vicinity
or visa versa.

Just because you can't pick it up on your scanner doesn't mean our real radios aren't working. And the 800 system has been in since 1995, was upgraded to SmartZone 2 years ago (or so), and is only now looking to reband. Rebanding wasn't a factor 15 years ago, so I don't understand how anyone could receive kickbacks over it. Maybe we can stick to a little more grounded critique?

was that the old system, blew the roof off the house
reception wise, they could've added another channel,
they didn't need a whole complete new expensive system,
at taxpayers expense, moreover,
no police officers, ever complained about the old systems
reception, unlike they do about trunking systems, as I know
a whole slough of Sac Co. and Sac PD Officers, personally.
The Re-banding, was an un-necessary waste of taxpayer dollars
and the kickbacks,
was a joke, from past realities. Now, you've really made this
thread off track, now go get in your prius and chase an ambulance.
Nobody had a problem with this thread, till now, by the way, thanks for the friendly

Modifying the pro 2004-6 scanners was easy enough, and the last ones were the easiest to do! Cellular phones were often used as police tactical frequencies in those days too.

I have two of the CHP's 72 mhz frequencies in my Pro 2006; because they repeat the 42 mhz mobile channels loud and clear. The Santa Cruz sheriff also has a pair of 72 mhz links. These aren't much use, since those red and blue channels are both high level VHF repeaters heard way beyond the intended service area.

These new 800 mhz trunked systems will never out perform a good VHF/UHF repeater site on the mountain. Fortunately, most of what interests me is on conventional radio systems...
