7000 lsb

If anyone is up around 0930z keep an ear on 7000khz LSB. I was hearing Spanish voice comms on exactly 7megs LSB a few days ago. It was *NOT* amateur communication. I thought I heard a group on 6997lsb but 7000lsb was the active freq. Signals were S7-S9 easy and there were several male voices.

There were no amateur callsigns being exchanged.

Anyone hear anything like this?

I can dial up my transceiver to any frequency between 0 and 30 Mhz and transmit whatever I choose. It could be a broadcast, or just talking to my friend down the road. Unless you've got good reason to identify 'weird' transmissions as such and such, try not to assume anything. Just say'n.

Well, I think the point K9 is trying to make, is that HF communication is fairly easy to implement and that anyone can do this... it doesn't take much of an investment these days. A few hundred dollars and a wire antenna -- and you have cheap, reliable long-distance communication.

For all we know these could be South American taxi drivers.

I'll try to get a recording of these guys and see if someone can't decipher what is they're talking about.

That's the way to do it. For all you know, it could be a couple of pawn shops in NYC testing out some gear that someone brought in for quick cash!

I wasn't assuming it was drug cartels, I said I "was beginning to wonder how many" of them may be drug cartels. I realize the other possibilities-but you just as well can't rule out this possibility
