700mhz and Border Patrol

Does anyone know what range of the 700mhz band I should be monitoring for border patrol in northern Michigan.

There are no Federal agencies on 700 MHz.
Customs & Border Protection typically operates on 162-174 MHz.

Border patrol in the Sault Ste Marie station does use michigans p25 800 system. Sometimes I hear them say if they cant be reached try them on the 700 radio.

Is it in an interop time? Could they mean these? Interoperability Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I also know Actel/Lucent made CDMA 700mhz public safety communication devices, but have no idea where in the band they would fall.

You could try searching 763-765, 769-771, 773-775 if they are there, this is where I guess they would be.

I wonder if the term "the 700 radio" heard on the air has nothing to do with 700 mhz. Maybe a name for another radio they use. I never hear the Border Patrol around me refer to MSPSC as "the 800 radio" when they are on VHF.

Many Federal agencies altho a callsign might be KCA654
would just use 654

It is entirely possible that multiple federal agencies in every state have talkgroups available to themselves on whichever trunked radio systems are operating in that state, particularly statewide systems. Those TG's would probably be encrypted as well.

You might be on to something there Bill. According to an old Federal Frequency Book I have, The NTIA callsigns are;
KAK 700 Detroit, MI
KAK 701 Trenton, MI

Its making me think now. I guess I will have to listen better when they talk on 800mhz. Never had any luck hearing them on vhf.
