Folks, I have been loaned this radio by one of my Elmers till I can save enough pennies to get my own HF rig. Since its an all mode I went ahead a programmed various repeaters into the memory, however, (at least best I can tell after spending all day reading the manual) it does not scan like most mobiles or scanners that I have used, in that it only scans two ways:

1-10 second stop on transmissions, in which after 10 seconds it resume scanning whether the transmission is over or not

2-scans and stops on a transmission and then stays there permintaely until you manually press the scanning button again

Am I missing something?

If not, does anyone know of a work around so that it can resume scanning on its own like most radios once the transmission is over or there is a break, regardless of how long or short the transmission is.

My Elmer never used that feature, he mostly just used the radio for HF, so that is why I came here.

Thanks in advance!

Glad you got it solved..

FWIW, the radio is a menu driven thing that takes a bit of getting used to. (I have the similar IC-7000) If you don't have the user manual that explains how to do things, you can download a PDF version from Icom IC-706MKIIG Downloads - Icom America

Oh yeah, menu driven would be an understatement. Luckly for me my Elmer provided me with the original owner's manual. Great little rig so far though!

He even loaned me the LDG (IT-100) tuner he bought to go with it, so I am great shape!

Thanks for the feedback!
