:?

You're wondering....what is this guy writing about?

My lovely wife presented me with a second 780 last Christmas.

Using it in my car just as I had been with my original 780, it sounded like
Lagrange's 800 TRS had developed some new "dead spots".

I really thought "they" had a problem.

Looked around and got a visual on our one and only SmartNet tower about 1-1/2 miles away. Line of site.

There I was, line of site and the signal sounded like I was 20 miles away. Loud hissing, of such magnitude it almost drowned out the signal.

Realizing this didn't make sense, I reached into the back seat and swapped back to my orignal 780. No problem! The original worked just fine.

I went back to the new 780, same problem. I did notice that while switching back to the other scanner, once I disconnected the antenna, the desensitizing disappeared. Hey, I thought....that's about equal to attenuation.

So, I went through and attenuated all seven of Lagrange's 800 freq's. That worked ok until I got out of the line of site zone. Then it was weak and choppy.

Uniden Repair Shop took my scanner and "re-aligned" it. No improvement.

I plan to send it back with the above description.

Unless they can fix it, I'll ask them for another scanner. Which they alluded to in a phone call.

Just wanted to see if any of you have experienced this.

Thanks for your time.

Take Care,
Julian

Not yet on the 780 but on the PRO series scanners this is caused by NEXTEL direct connect or cell phone [800] not PCS being too close to antenna and damaging the front end of the receiver. Also you cant use an 800 walkie talkie near the scanner while it's on. I think you get the picture.

780 Desensitizing

Thanks for your post. You mention interference from
Nextel..etc.

The lack of any interference desensitizing my original
780 is what's bugging me. Just my new one.

The location where I did me "switch test" between scanners
is on a hill top w/ 6 or 7 different analog/digital cell towers
within 1/4 mile of me. My original works just fine.

So I even went to the street beneath Lagrange's TRS tower.
Same thing. Origingal works great.

Thanks and take care,
Julian
