• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

GOOD MORNING ALL... A FRIEND OF MINE JUST UPGRADED FROM A BC 780 TO THE NEW BC 796D... I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PROG SOFTWARE SUPPLIED BY UNIDEN, JUST A FEW QUESTIONS WHY CAN'T I IMPORT THE DATAS FROM HIS 780 INTO THE NEW 796D. WHY CAN'T I JUST PULL UP BOTH COPIES OF THE PROG SOFTWARE AND COPY AND PASTE THE DATA. FOR MOST OF US WE HAVE SPENT MANY HOURS GATHERING CORRECT INFO ON THE LOCAL SYSTEMS AROUND US AND HOURS ENTERING THIS INFO JUST TO HAVE TO START OVER. WHY CAN'T UNIDEN MAKE A STANDARD PROTOCALL, AND OFFER A IMPORT FUNCTION, THIS WAY WE CAN SPEND THE NEEDED TIME TO EXPLORE THE NEW PRODUCT AND NOT HOURS RE-ENTERING DATA.

THANKS

NICK :( :( :( :(

I don't know about the uniden software, I have the software that came with the 780, but it seemed almost worthless.

I have been doing just what you describe, but using the ARC-780 program and the ARC 250 program and it is easy to copy & paste between them. Maybe someone you know could help out on that.

Don't frustrate yourself with the software that Uniden provided. As you are discovering, it is poorly written and offers few options. Make life easier for yourself so you can enjoy your new scanner. Get a copy of the ARC250 -- it is available on-line for download and on a CD-ROM. The ARC250 is well written/programmed and I don't think they missed anything. I tranferred data from my 780 to my 796D in 10 minutes or less. ARC's technical support (Gommert) is excellent.

The Uniden software that comes with the 796D is worthless and has some major bugs that need to be worked out of it. Do yourself and your scanner a favor and obtain the ARC250 software. You can download the current 780 info into the software and upload it to the 796D with no problems at all.
