Thanks in advance

I wish you had not reminded me of the differences. Every time I view those two displays I shake my head in disbelief. I will never sell my UBC-780XLT. What in the world was Uniden thinking when they made these stripped down changes a while back? They must have hired a new engineer who didn't want to work very hard.

I think that they would have done better all the way around if they would have left the 780 alone other then adding digital into it.

The 785/796 display is better in most regards than the 780XLT. They are also better scanners overall, the extra 500 channels aside.

The display is easier to see in a mobile environment than the 780 display. Especially if you wear polarized sun glasses. The 785/96 are more sensitive scanners. The CC only trunking works much better than it does on the 780.

It took some time to get used to the HOLD button instead of a MAN button, but once you get used to it, there's no difference.

The placement of the volume/squelch and VFO knobs were a big source of complaint in the 780 and Uniden reversed them in the 785/96 after user complaints.

I like the menu system of the 780 more than I do the menu of the newer radios, but that's about all.

I'm glad I could help illuminate that for you.

But I don't agree :p

I have to agree with Dubbin, the 780 display seems to be more pleasing
and works for me just fine.
I have seen a 796d and I am glad I have my 780.

And that's what is so great about this country. We can disagree, you guys can be wrong, and nobody is the worse off. <G>

I like the larger font of the display on the 785. I never liked that way that talk groups or PLs display on the 780. Nor do I like how the talk groups display in CC mode on the 780.

As I also wrote in another post, if you wear polarized sunglasses, you lose the display in the 780. Not a problem in 785/96.

Enjoy your scanner, as I enjoy mine.

Apparantly they took away the channel activity blocks, is this correct?

It looks like it's just a mobile version of the 250d.

I really wish they would keep those activity blocks. It's a neat feature to see the activity on the system.
