How do you manually enter the Tones? Looked through manual, and did a search on the Board and couldn't find anything on doing it.
785D ... MANUALLY entering CTCSS/DCS tones??

ok- you can find the owners manual on unidens website in pdf form.
i found that most of the info you need is on pages 24, 25, 39,40,41.
here goes
press menu
press 3
press 8
adjust for tone squelch with dial
press enter
press menu three times to exit
now when on a channel, press enter and the tone frequency should come up.
because i mostly use software to program these radios, i can get rusty
from time to time. but i do beleive you should "master" the radio manually
before using software to appreciate what the software can do for you.

785D Programming
I agree, manually programming helps one better understand the unit.
But once you are ready to step up to software, may I recommend ARC250D which also supports the 785D. This is since the 250D is the handheld version of the 785D.
ARC is a great software. There are other fine ones too.
If you have trunked systems to set up and if for mobile mounts you travel, the ability to download various files via software is a must.

Ok, thanks for the ideas.
Have had the 785D about a year and a half, but have always programmed the Tones by the function that lets you look for them while scanning, then press 'Enter" when the correct Tone comes up on a particular frequency.

Haven't used software with the 785D (yet), but with my 246T, I quickly found it was a neccessity to program it, so am using Uniden's DemoWare program.
Haven't tried Trunking with 246T, but haven't been able to get it working on 785D. Tells you to put in a frequency, then asks for the next frequency, annnnd if you don't know the next freq. then things screech to a halt. Been several months since I've tried anything with Trunking.

the nice thing about the 246/396, is the fact that you dont lose channels
because of only 1 trunking system per bank.
what i find hard about the 246 is the quick keys- you can assign as may systems as you want. that can be confusing.
i would try some software-
and of course read and re-read the manual!

Hi!
Tried setting the tones via instructions, and after pressing 8 I turn the knob to attempt to set the Tone, all that happens is the cursor or whatever you call it go's to 9, and nothing about entering a tone.
