796D Control Channel Question & more

Could someone help me understand how to program my 796D? I've read the manual. I bought the Butel software. I know my frequencies and talkgroups and they're programmed correctly I believe--used the software. Question is should I leave it like it is or change to control channel only mode. If so, what's the advantages or disadvantages of each? Also, when do I use "ID Search" and "ID Scan" and what are advantages/disadvantages here? I just can't seem to grasp this thing and I've been around scanners my entire life. Maybe I've got a mental block.

CC only Plan

CC only vs all freqs:
Using CC only allows for determining new frequencies on a known system. Also allows tracking of an unknown system with a found CC during search and determining some or all of the voice frequencies. It will also free up at least 96 other channels in the bank.

ID SEARCH vs ID SCAN:
ID SEARCH will stop on all traffic in the system during transmissions, while ID SCAN will stop only on unlocked ID's previously programmed in any active scan list. ID SCAN provides a great tool for listening to what you desire to hear, while ID SEARCH will find any unknown ID's.

Edit: Make sure you set the correct plan for CC only, Butel has a setup page for CC only in the Trunk PullDown at bottom of System Settings dialog.
