When they go to 800, they are using the RACOM trunked system. I ran a ID trackers on the Pott Co talkgroups, had around 100 hits in a 24 hours period. Its not used much, but it is used.

They use it for car-car communication for chitter chatter.

Howdy, Tim, and all!

Pottawattamie County is on the fast-track to building a P25 simulcast trunking system which will end-up being a subsystem of the current ORION system which serves Douglas County / Washington County in Nebraska. The county's use of RACOM is gradually coming to an end, it would appear.

Here's a link to the "fact sheet" on the PottCounty.com website:
http://www.pottcounty.com/pdf/800 MHz Fact Sheet.pdf

If you open the 2007 Minutes archive of the Pott. County Board of Supervisors:
http://www.pottcounty.com/pdf/BOSminutes/Minutes2007.pdf

... and look at those of the December 5th meeting, you'll see the bid award going to Motorola for just over $8M for the new system.

The December 31st meeting also has a mention of a contract being awarded to Motorola for the same system.

I don't recall right-off where I read it, but I believe that the system will at least be partially on the air during the summer to fall timeframe.

So, there should be some interesting listening and logging to do as we move into the warmer months!!

Alas, Racom will be lacking some airtime revenue...(crocodile tears present) sniff, sniff...
all better now.

The unfortunate side effect of this is that those of us on the Omaha side of ORION will have
to upgrade our XTL/XTS radio flashes for SMARTZONE trunking to use the Pott. County system.

That's like $800 per radio! YIKES!!!
