Hello all
i have a radio shack scanner. 200 chanels, 300 to 512 mgz, it works fine. The police dept and sheriff dept changed their system to 800 mgz. Can my scanner be modified to get 800 megz or do i have to buy a new one.
Thanks

I see they are a P25 digital. Even if you could convert your scanner to 800MHz it would have to make it a digital scanner also.

So more than likely you would have to buy a digital scanner. Since Griffin PD and the Sheriff are on using digital format now or getting ready to. So you would need a scanner such as a Pro 106 or some other digital scanner such as the home patrol or PSR 800. And looks like you may or may or not have to program a custom table in.

You do need to upgrade your scanner. My suggestion is either the RS Pro-106, or Pro-197. Getting a short term premium membership here on RR with the Win500 thirty day free trial:
www.starrsoft.com
and the USB programming cable will allow you to import the Griffin/Spalding county P-25 system directly from the RR database. It can then be imported to your scanner. I would not advise getting the ARC-500. It is not as intuitive as Don Starr's program.
If you have any problems, don't hesitate to ask us in the Georgia State forum further down the forums page. You will get a load of help there.

It is considered bad form to hijack someone else's thread. You have people trying to answer your question in the thread you started.
