Just thought I'd pass along a good review on the Radio Shack, band-specific, 800 MHz, rubber-duckie antenna. I use a Uniden BC-250D with the BCi25d, listening to the APCO-25 systems in the Colorado Springs area. The RS antenna, part number 20-283, performs qualitatively, twice a well as the stock Uniden antenna in the 800 MHz band. If you are an avid 800 MHz listener, I highly recommend this antenna.

I have to say differently to this. I had bought that antenna you are talking about for my 296 and still seen the same amount of signal strength bars on the screen. I went and took it back for the other antenna they had which is that monster of a rubber duck and still had the same results as the uniden one. Very disappointed. No the radio is set to the system correctly.

I tried this and it blew me away. I don't understand it but it works very well. It's an antenna off one of my wireless transmitter receivers. I know this may sound strange but I am not kidding.

What bands Are you trying to get?

I longer whip is MUCH beter for VHF than ANY rubber duck.

yes I should have noted the band I was refering to but the antenna in qustion is for 800 any way. I Just wanted 800 MHz. This antenna is only 6 inches or so tall. I think the reason why it works so well is because it is near the same meter band as 800 MHz. Or dose that refer to dipoles only? I do use my other extendable antenna off my ic-r3 for my 296 which works well to!

The other odd thing is I can still hear air traffic with that antenna in the pitcher.

It looks like I am not the only person who had a problem with the ruber duck. Click me

800 MHZ Antenna

I bought the 800 MHZ Antenna from Radio Shack and it works great with my PRO 92.

The antenna you reference is not the antenna this thread is about. The antenna this thread is about is the (RS 20-283) 800MHz Scanner Antenna, not the repackaged old cell antenna being marketed by GRE as a scanner antenna.

If you didn't get superior performance from the antenna, either you got a bad antenna or you didn't get the right antenna at all. :?

Thanks for the review Liverdog! The 7 inch antenna is short. I might buy it so that I can monitor some weak 850 MHz stations in Northern Virginia.

Can you guys see my pic that I have posted? I just signed in and now I see it. Whats going on here. I mean when I checked the thread here I was not signed in and my pic. was not there then I signed in and there it was . I tried two browsers to make sure it was not on my end. I feel like I'm living in the twilight zone here. First I say that the antenna that I have pictured worked better for me and the my pitcher is not their until I log in.
