I’m quite sure this has been answered many times in the past, yet technology advances every day. I live in Pasco County, Florida, whereby all the agencies in the Tampa Bay area utilize 800 Mhz. Trunking Systems (Edacs & Motorola). I recently received a “free” Uniden Home Patrol radio with the standard telescopic antenna. I have used an Austin Condor Rubber Duck on my 396T for years, but I’m sure something better is available these days.

Can anyone recommend an antenna for the 800 Mhz. band only? Thanking you all in advance.

Are you looking for a base, mobile, or on the scanner antenna? There are quite a bit of antennas out there for 800MHZ.

A base antenna would be ideal, but I live in one of those Florida Nazi community's that dictates when I can go to the bathroom, so I must settle for one that connects to the HP BNC adapter. I have read many posts that recommend the Radio Shack antenna. That sounds way too simple to be true. Thanks for your help. Tony

Definitly the R/S 800Mhz. I use it with a GRE 3001 Amp. Beats the Condor in 800MhZ I have tryed them both on 800 Mhz.

The RS 800 antenna is by far the best handheld/back of set antenna.

I can not have outside antennas either.

I use a MAXRAD 800 Mhz Yagi antenna mounted to the pole of a 5 foot floor lamp near my desk aimed at the site 7 miles away. I currently use this for my live feed. I can also easily rotate it to listen to other systems.

If I placed an antenna in my house on a lamp pole, do you have a spare room when my wife throws me out? I'm going to try the Radio Shack 800 antenna since everything is flat and sandy in Florida. Thanks, TP

Tessco.com has some yagis in the 806-896, 806-869, and 824-896 range of various brands, construction, and gain and price. Set up a login to get the better pricing. Set one up on a used tripod and point it out the window or wherever reception is best. Edit: and in the divorce she'll get the house and you'll get a cool antenna, I guess.
