My local digital 800 MHz trunked system (NWCD) moved to a re-banded frequency set yesterday.

My wife has a 296D which has worked quite well on this system until now.

What are my options / best bet for handling this situation (aside from buying her a 396!) LOL.

I thought Uniden has a firmware upgrade for the 296D to support re-banding (???).

If I use their flash will the radio no longer track trunked systems still using the old bandplan? Will the change be global to the radio?

Or does it work on a per-system basis the way the 396 / 996 upgrades operate (using a custom band plan)?

Thanks in advance for any guidance and Happy Scanning! - Ted

We expect to release a rebanding update for that scanner in mid-February.

The update will not affect the scanning of non-rebanded systems (they'll still be ok).

I know this does not address all your questions but it talks to the timeline.

It is my understanding that the rebanding update will add channel allocations but should take nothing away that it already has since it is basically just smaller bandwidth channels.

Maybe sombody can add here if my perception is incorrect.

Thanks Paul! Hmm, I wonder what my chances are of getting my wife to wait patiently until mid-February. I smell a 396 ahead, LOL. Thanks again! - Ted

Besides Rebanding support, will there be any new features or fixes planned for the 296D?

I am wondering if it could/would make it DMA capable so you can use bcTool?

Thanks

That's not something that could be done with a firmware update. The memory architchture is part of hardware. It's banks and channels and that's it.
