• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I don't think that iDEN is a dead system. AIRINC is installing trunking systems using iDEN at many airports. These are new systems and will be up and running for years to come.

No one knows what will happen with frequencies. First NEXTEL bought up those 800 frequencies and if they decide to not use them I am sure they will be offered for sale. They could go to groups that would cause even more interference. NEXTEL has never said whether it would go along with the FCC proposal, but it covers much more than 800 MHz. It also covered the 700 MHz adjacent bands to public safety that NEXTEL bought at auction and will certainly want to sell. It also covers the new spectrum at 2 GHz that the new SPRING/NEXTEL will need. Rebanding is not out, just in limbo while the details are discussed. The FCC may well have opened a real can of worms taking so long to make a decision.

iDen is NOT dead, NOR unsupported..... VSELP is. iDen will be supported for a LONG time to come. Nationwide ARInc.....Southern Linc,....And until Sprint announces OFFICIALLY that they are switching over from SMR to Cellular/PCS on the Nextel system, the situation is STILL SNAFU'ed. So iether the FCC will have to make a new deal, or Sprint/Nextel has to merge onto the Cellular/PCS system....

If they switch it over, this will make Sprint PCS the single most powerful Cellular type service in the USA....... I can't wait to hear Verizon, and Cingular/AT&T start going NUTS!

Yesterday I posted the revised report and order from the FCC on rebanding of 800 MHz and interference. I was reading MRT, Mobile Radio Technology and they report some additional information that addresses some comments made in this string.

A new contract has been made with Motorola to expand the iDEN network for 3 more years. Motorola was also selected to provide a new handset to work on both the Nextel and Sprint networks. In other words, Motorola is a winner in the Sprint/Nextel merger. IDEN, alive and well and even expanding.

MRT also reports that the revised report and order lowers the amount that Nextel will owe for rebanding by over 400 million dollars. Nextel is a winner also, along with Sprint.

The new merged company is not about to give up any of unique functions that Nextel customers now have and will continue them in the new 800 MHz and 1.9 GHz frequencies they will use.

Also look up Harmony on the Motorola website. It's iDEN in the private radio arena and continues to be available and supported.

iDEN isn't dead, its just taking a slow migration to CDMA for NEXTEL. For the others it is and continues to be available.

I was refferring to personally,.. since the original issue was about a personal fear that the world was ending with rebanding....

Business wise,.. yeah it will take a while to reprogram say a couple hundred.. but in your home, one day's worth of work and some burning keyboards on your PC.... :)

Not if you have a Pro96. I got v-folders for every place I have gone since I've owned the radio. That's gonna take more then a day to turn around,
