Just wanting to get input on antennas I live in northern Michigan I have a 800 Mhz Digital scanner and I have LMR 400 Coax going to the outside scanner antenna.
The Antenna That I have are one of the small ones that Radio Shack sells but I want one that will get more range on 800Mhz Digital.
Is there a antenna that I can get that has more Db gain on it for 800Mhz Digital?

Ive used comtelco in the past. Very nice antennas.

BSL800XL7-C is one hell of a base antenna. Kind of expensive but can find them on eBay new and used at times around 100.00.
I've copied UP towers from LLWC Lincoln, Alcona county area mounted 40' tower which sits at 1010' above ground level.

The ht antennas do take alot of abuse.

I run with the Laird FG8246, cut to the 824 thur 896 Megs. It is 65 inches in length and has a 6db gain. I am well pleased with it. Aircraft and the high band suffers a little with it but for 800 Megs I am very happy.

800Mhz Antenna

I found a good antenna that I bought I should of posted a long time ago it's the Wilson 13dbi 800MHz Yagi Cellular Antenna it works very good very directional you have to right at the tower but other then that it works very good right now I get a digital tower thats 26 miles away so at least now I can listen to that county now.
Also I have a GRE Super Amplifier hooked up to it with 60 foot of LMR 400 cable.
Now the other thing that I have noticed is if I have my cell phone near my scanner in that room that I have the scanner in it will not let some of the towers come in on my scanner I don't know why it would do that but I am thinking about trying to put a metal sheald around the preamp I think that preamp is is garbing so many signals around it because it doesn't have a good sheald inside of it.
If I have the cell phone in the other room of the house I don't seem to have a problem.
Does anybody out there have any idea's what I can use to put around that preamp to stop that from happening?

The antenna I have is a wilson yagi works good on 800Mhz but it will not work that good on 150 Mhz I have tried it.
The thing that I do is have 2 scanners one for 800Mhz and the other for 150Mhz and 460Mhz on 2 sep antenna's and that works the best for me.

jack3726:

An antenna made for 800 MHz will work equally well on older and newer scanners. An antenna has nothing to do with the mode of transmission (analog or digital).

On a similar note: If you see an ad for a digital TV antenna, it's just a sales gimmick. The word "digital" was just put in the name just to grab unsuspecting gullible customers.
