Although many in the public and the emergency services community have developed a negative impression about the countywide communications system, Weiss said those opinions are not always warranted.
"There's no way in the world we could fight this fire with the old communications system. It would have been very difficult to pull so many different agencies together like we're doing here."

With interop. happening almost daily here we feel the same way. With 51 Interoperability Interlocals on the books and over 5000 subscribers able to access the system we are light years ahead of what we had 6 years ago along with the ability to sustain operations thru hurricanes with minimal damage.

Now if we could only get the Division of Forestry to buy some 800 radios as 99% of the time our system out performs theirs and they have to borrow radios from us.

Is the Division of Forestry staying on VHF or are they jumping on board the new Florida SLERS?

If I had to bet, it would be to stay on 800. But that is just a guess.
