You need to give us more info.............Such as which frequencies you want to listen to and maybe the type of vehicle.......then others with that vehicle can comment on what works...........permanent or non-permanet type.......inside or outside the veh.............

Otherwise it's difficult to recommend something for 800mHz.

The broad answer to your broad question is probably any antenna designed to receive 800mHz and with whatever type of mount you want.

You can't go too far wrong, nor do too much better than a 1/4 wave whip or 3 dB antenna in the middle of the roof.

The next step up would be a 5 dB elevated feed (again, in the middle of the roof)

get a phantom elite (they look sharp and work well) and put it in the center of the roof on an NMO mount. Performance is crap when you use a mag mount or otherwise.

What does everyone think about through the glass cellular antennas? They're also made for 800 MHz.

Iv always wondered about the magnet mounts, guessing they dont have to drill the holes on the car but as they set it in the middle of the roof they would have something else magnetic on the other side? aslong as they are aligned and goes to the radio?

No, the magnet is used to hold the antenna to the vehicle. A cable is attached at the base of the antenna that must be routed into the car somehow, often via a door or trunk etc.

I am going to be installing an EDACS Wide 800mhz 2 way radio in my F150. What type of antenna would I need and would I need to tune it like a CB with an SWR meter?

bump... does anyone know what antenna i need ^^^^^

As stated.

If you buy a commercial 800 MHz antenna and install it properly you do not need to worry about tuning.
