I've heard ducting signals on 800 MHz several times, usually during the spring and fall when you get Temperature Inversions. Noticed a lot last spring, haven't heard any yet this fall. It's been a hot fall so far.

Not impossible.. I have heard 800 Mhz skip from around 150 miles away.. it should start to get interesting now that it's starting to cool off. It finally started to really cool down here just this week.. about time too.

At 800 mhz it's not "skip" as in E skip or F skip (look it up), it's tropo, ducting, or simply enhancement of signals (not all the same either).

Wikipedia has a nice writeup on the various modes by which signals can be heard a long way away:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV/FM_DX

Either way, it's fun!
