800 Rebanding Confusion

Sorry guys....but I am still confused. Maybe I've been on the road too much today.....

Here goes. UPMan's note mentions moving Public Safety into 851 - 854 range. Ok. My 785/250 can do that.

Just what is going to be the new spectrum? Surely all these trunked systems in an area like Atlanta will not fit into 851 - 854.

What are the new frequency ranges in <addition> to 851 - 854 that will be used? I know 700 is on the horizon for new systems to be created in the future. But rebanding as I understand is within 800 Mhz.

So, 851 - 854 will be Public Safety. What is this <new range> of 800 frequencies that my 785 & 250 will not pick up?

the problem comes because motorola uses channel numbering plan. rebanding will move twice as many channels in those frequencies as are currently there messing up the numbering plan. It remains to be seen how motorola solves this program before it will be known if any of the late model scanners will follow the revised plan. Hopefully motorola does it the way many think it will and if so then the Pro96/2096 will work with the tables and Uniden 296 396 can be reflashed.

So the spacing is going to change.

I'm confuse then how even a 780 would not work. Since we all can scan 851 - 854 what changes. I mean, we can adjust the khz spacing, so how are we affected?

because motorola doesn't using spacing it uses channel numbers. in a motorola system it makes no difference if you put all the frequencies in, the scanner ignores all but the control channel. EDACS will not be a problem because you have to put all the frequencies in an exact order and the controller tells the scanner to go to a LCN.

The 780 and 785 should work OK just scanning the frequencies, but will not trunk track a motorola system after rebanding. They just will not be able to figure out what the controller is telling it to do on motorola systems.

I still use my Pro 2004 and 2005 and will continue to use my 780 on military air scanning and my sheriffs office that is conventional. Actually I still use my BC235 and 245. All scanners are good for something.
