800 USB cable

On the cable that comes with the radio there is a little round barrel on the end of the cable,is there something in there that does something for programming,the reason I am asking is that I would like to buy a extra cable at our local store,it has the same ends,minus the barrel,scared to give it try in case I damage radio.

I have wondered the same thing. I have used other USB cables and they will work but that does not mean it is OK.

It will be a ferrite core to diminish noise from the power source and the computer motherboard. You can buy them at electronics stores and add them later if noise is a problem with another USB cable.

The standard is USB A to USB Mini. Any cord will work, and I have used plenty. I have bought several off of ebay for 99 cents each, free shipping.
