• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was delegated the duty to fix the beeping heard during reception but don't know on our new APX 8000what to look for. not trunked, not secured and non astro.

I have very surface level knowledge, read the documention and have access to the motorola programming software.

All our APX 8000 beeps during reception. Reception isn't the greatest either but that is normal. Our Xts 2500 don't do it.

Thanks for the help!

Does the tone sound like the keypad tone, or something of a bit lower frequency? There are two different options I'm thinking of.

Does the beep go away when you take the radio out of scan? If yes, then disable the Priority Scan Alert in Scan Wide.

It sounds like a higher pitch tone. I disabled clear alert tone and seemed to have fixed it but unsure.

That, and then check if clear alert tone is on for RX only.
I just had the one radio and transmissions slowed down quite a bit as it was near end of day so I wasn’t able to really confirm but haven’t heard the beep since.

Just to confirm my understanding, the clear alert tone for RX will beep at intervals during reception to tell me comms I’m hearing are unsecured? Furthermore, would moving the switch (the one with the circle under channel selector) from secure to unsecure achieve the same result I’m looking for?

I really appreciate your help by the way.

It will beep at the start of the transmission to tell you it's not secured, and no, the transmission you are receiving is still unsecure so switching your radio to secure won't fix that.

The clear alert tone option can be found in the secure options. The scan alert tone can be found in both radio wide and scan options.
