800Frequency Transmissions only on Search Mode

I receive transmissions on 800 Frequency when in "Search" Mode but when I switch to the bank that has many of the same 800 Frequencies programmed into my R/S Pro 96..... I get nothing period.

Also when I lock in 155.56500 for OnslowCounty Sheriff dispatch (418) for over an hour....to listen to any NTBPD activiity... many times I hear absolutely nothing.

I live on the beach in NTB. Late at night it sometimes comes in when Scanner is in Bdrm on street side.

Is something wrong with my scanner or is it my location? Very frustrating. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Jack. Happy Saturday to you. Have you tried a different antenna? I had a Pro-83 that quit receiving at one time. Thought the scanner was bad, but the rubber duck all of a sudden went bad....could not hear anything. Changed to another antenna, and was back in service. It is possible for a scanner to work sometimes without an antenna, but the signal has to be close. this could explain your intermittant receive. HTH......PW

I may try a new antenna.
However when in the search mode for local Fire & PD..many of the 800 frequencies come in and do not seem to be affected by a possible faulty antenna. Few of the signals are close. I live on the beach and still get many Jacksonville 800's including a Taxi Company. Who can figure? Thanks again. All comments are welcome and appreciated.
