800mhz Antennex Antenna

What kind of reception can I expect on the lower frequencies (150-400) with this type of antenna? The local stuff that I monitor have strong signals. Just wondering if it would be worth it since I would like to monitor 800mhz from about 35 miles away.

That one is just for 800 and up; why not get one of the multiband scanner antennas Antennex and others make? It would be a lot cheaper

I have the Antenex mobile scanner antenna, a roof mount, and I can pick up departments that use VHF just about 60 miles away. I live in Grand Rapids, MI and work in Lansing, which is a 60 mile drive for me and at night coming home I have picked up the different departments I listen to here in Grand Rapids from Lansing. It also picks up quite well listening to 2 meter ham frequiencies. I would highly recommend it. Almost forgot, 800 reception is very very good!

You can expect next to nothing for reception outside 800 with that antenna. I have one and it's deaf outside 800.

I have used that antenna for the past year in the Clevleand, Ohio metro area and here are my results, hooked up to a Pro 96 -

Low VHF - Poor
High VHF - Good
400 UHF - Very Good
800 - Excellant

I have even mounted the antenna on the dash board on the speaker cover and it performs as good there as it does when mounted on the trunk or roof.

I have run this antenna against my multiband RS antenna and the Antennex blows the socks off the RS. I have also run it against the RS 800 rubber duck and the Antennex is somewhat better.

I have the antenex phantom w/ the VHF-Hi (150-168 MHZ) cut.....and it does as well as what Swipsey reports subjectively on the given bands, with the exception of being great on the 150-160 MHZ freqs I monitor. Must say, I'm rather pleased with it. VHF-Low (30-40) actually seems comparable (roughly) to a stock Uniden or RS portable rubber ducky.
