I'm going to try an antenna that's a departure of what's normally used for scanner radios. I picked up a new TerraWave's 698-896/1700-2700 MHz omni antenna is designed for outdoor wireless networks operating in the LTE, cellular or 2.4 GHz frequency range. This antenna is ideal for any outdoor...
The FG8243 from Laird (formerly Antenex) is a heavy duty, omni-directional fiberglass base station antenna operating at 824-896 MHz, providing 3 dBd/ 5.15 dBi of linear gain.*Note: This antenna DOES NOT ship with mounting hardware. We recommend the ROSA-HDM1 mounting bracket*
Just keep in mind that it does not come with the Inline or Bulkhead Lightning Arrestor nor any Mounting Hardware. Be sure to factor that into your overall comparison on antennas. For this one, the street price looks like it would be for these three items about $175 with N connectors.
Please don't forget about the need for lightning protection on your antenna system. Depending on how the coax is run, where your grounding rods are located, what type of coax you are using, etc., there may be alternative methods of providing lightning protection and grounding of the antenna system.
