800mhz outdoor antennas

I was thinking about putting up a better antenna in the near future and was looking for a little insight on which antenna would be best to use if I only want to listen to an 800mhz trunked system. It will be 75 feet in the air so it must be sturdy and withstand high winds from time to time. One other requirement is that it not be directional. Any suggestions?

I would start with an 800 MHz moble antenna with some ground radials.

An elevated feed mobile antenn is another good choice.

These are going to be "fair to bad" on all bands but 800 MHz but there is not much better you can do on 800 without spending way too much $$.

I use an Antenex ATXFG 8066 with 6 db gain white fibreglass antenna for the 806 - 866MHz. that I purchased from Waltel.com. Cost about $100.00 including mounting brackets. I have it hooked up to 50 ft of LMR 400 coax and it works quite well in a very rural area. It also doesn't do to bad on the 400 band either.

If your coax is 75-100 feet you have to use very low loss coax to go that far at that freq without losing the advantage of antenna height--

You shoul duse the best cable you can afford.

Keep the loss at the highest band down to 6dB and you will most likeley be doing better than an inside antenna, even at the same height.
