I held off on purchasing a BCT15 for the same reasons you speake about...The sensitivity on the BCT15 I recently purchased is amazing!! 800 reception is perfect...no complaints here!! I'm sure the 996 is the same...I think overall you will enjoy the 996 more...

Do you mean reception? I get confuse when people use the word sensitivity.

Anyhow, the antenna you use will have a big affect on what your scanner receives.

Sensitivity I believe has to do with your squelch knob.

By the way, keep it away from your computer, wireless modem, and cable modem.

Put very simply, sensitivity is the way to measure how the radio receives signals. A radio with 0.25uv sensitivity at a certain freq. will receive weaker signals than a radio with 0.5uv sensitivity at the same freq.
