Because I have a 'unblocked' 8200 - 3 , AOR will not do the P25 update, but it was suggested that I can buy the parts and replace the boards my self ?!
Ha sanyone look inside the case; is it a matter of removing and replacing flex cables and boards (CPU) which plug into each other?
what say you

Really?
I emailed AoR a few weeks back asking that exact question..

I queried,,

I have an AoR 8200MK3 UNBLOCKED version.
If i send in the unblocked version, will the continuous
coverage be restricted to the US/FCC Standards?

The answer i received was No.Your coverage will not be
altered/effected by the digital upgrade.

really...interesting
my post was minuettes after i spoke to them, and his comment was they were inform by somebody that they can not repair my radio if it is unblock -the FCC rules said thay cant, and I only maybe needed a key pad - they wont touch it; but even when ask if that includes the upgrade he said they will not do it to an unblock unit BUT i could buy the parts - even the key pad - too replace my self

PS a few years ago they did repair my unit - which would not power up so they replaced a board no questions ask - I posted this awhile back when the unblock block thread appeared
any 'independent' repair place out there?

This Country is so f'd. They act as if you are asking them to repair a Dillon mini-gun.

See,this gives me concern.Conflicting statements from AoR are really making me lean towards
your original post..get the parts(hopefully just a new PCB) and do the swap myself or at a local
repair shop if the ribbons needed soldering.

As long as I have know, AOR cannot by law repair unblocked units for non authorized users.

In fact there was a time if you sent an ICOM R8500 PCR1000, R10 or any other receiver of the 1994 vintage that had a CPU that had the non hardcoded country code in the CPU that the CPU would be exchanged for one that was hardcoded even if the radio was unmoded. So I have some ICOM equipment that I can never send in for repair as I will possibly loose the CPUs due to an exchange. This happened to a vendor that even could sell to authorized users unblocked equipment.

Just like there are many AR3000A radios that can have the auxillary board for the window removed for unblocking and many AR5000 radios that can have bits banged to unblock.

AOR 8200 MK3 UPGRADE

Hey people,

Glad I took a look here as I just went or am still going through the same issue with AOR. My board fried and they will not touch it due to cellular unblockage. If AOR was smart they would set up a shell corp and have others service all these people needing service. Its a simple paper shuffle AOR and the feds wont hassle you....

AOR ARE YOU LISTENING???????????????????????

Second can anyone fill me in on the digital upgrade? I currently am ordering the board and hey whats a few more bucks plus I am paying for surgery (no not on obama care!! ha ha) so whats one more slice? Does it do P25 or what? Will it still reaction tune with a opto electronics scout?

Anyone?

Thnx.......

AOR 8200 MKIII

It seems AOR is willing to upgrade or replace the CPU with the blocked cellular for an additional 85.00 and then will also be able to do the digital upgrade for 299.00!!!!!!!!

I am leaning that way.... They wont push the parts out the door as they say you need a special tool, whatever that means?

But I have a few questions please;

1) has anyone upgraded to digital and are you happy with it?

2) has anyone used the digital scout from opto electronics with it and how happy are you?

3) Instead of spending a few hundred with AOR and a few hundred on the scout does anyone have another alternative for "reaction tune"??

Thanks

Why is there still concern about unblocked cellular coverage? All cellphones are digital now so it doesn't matter if it's blocked or not.
