8200 MK3 or R30?

I'm trying to decide which one to spend my money on. Looking for opinions from others.....yeah, I know loaded question. Back in the 90's I owned a 8200 and loved it.

The digital decode features of the R30 are nice, but are not a make or break deal for me.

So what would you guys and gals spend your money on, if you had to choose between the two, and why?

If the R30 is as good as the R20, go for that. I have used both the R20 and the 8200mk3. For me, the 8200mk3 feels like it belongs in the 1990's.

I've been giving that some thought. 8200 will probably get discontinued when and if they can get the DV10 to function properly.

I have an 8200 mark 0 which in its day was a great radio for my needs. Today I have an R30 which is a great improvement over the original 8200. As for the Mark 3, I can’t say but it sure looks like 30 year old technology with a new name. R30 is the superior choice in my opinion.

I ended up getting the R30. My wife wanted me to order both. Lol. Told her that's a bit overkill. She's into the hobby too.

I went through the same dilemma last year. Knowing total encryption is coming to Minnesota, I wanted a receiver, not a scanner. Have owned a 8200 in late 90's. Was a sweet receiver back then. Am glad I went with the R30. Make sure you download the advance manual. Allot of good information in it.

Go with the R30. I own a 8200 and the R30 is by far a better radio. I like the fact I can monitor while the R30 is charging; the 8200 charging circuit is not designed to allow that. Doing so will damage the radio...Trust me on this.

Still enjoy my 82, but both have a moderate learning curve.
