    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

9" wide mobile brackets

Most everything on the replacement market is sized to the cobra form factor around 7" wide. There is a few adjustable units through companies like Workman and Opek. I need plain brackets around 9" wide for a number of units I've restored. I don't care if they are hot dipped galvenized, painted, anodized, or what they look like, just plain brackets with a single hole or slot and can use about 10, maybe a few more to make up some accessory sets for restorations.

Any suggestions of off-the-shelf brackets?

If you cannot find the right length you can cut the smaller ones in half to have a bracket. I have done it in the past and works rather well

Hello Dawn: I don't have a off the shelf answer, but I will share with you what I did for a 9 inch bracket.

Installing a radio in my 4x4 truck, I didn't have the right mounting bracket, as I got the radio second hand that needed repair. Just what I needed another non working radio. After it was all fixed, and a nasty e-mail to guy who took me for a ride on the radio, promising to spit red man in his face....

I cut as mentioned before, a smaller narrower bracket and added a piece of Aluminum Sheet metal between then to get the correct width. Yeah a red necked looking but ya can't see when the radio is installed. I used rivets to hold it all together. It was a one time install that held the 12, 11, and 10 meter radio. But I am sure you will find a source of them. Please let us know.
