I was given double shielded "braid and foil" 90 feet of what I think is rg58 but it is 75ohm. Will this induce any loss on a scanner used to receive air band, and VHF bands ?
I may be wrong on the shielding but I know for a fact it is 75 ohm and it has BNC connectors al ready and was used for video cameras.
Try to save some $ here and use what I have. If I had my choice and the money it would be lmr400 to the scanner.
That is most likely RG6, it is commonly used for video systems. It should work fairly well under 100 feet, but your mileage may vary. I have done exactly what you have done and it worked pretty good.
Don't coil up the excess after you install... that just creates a "signal soaker" and more loss. Cut it to length and attach a new coax connector (easily done with RG6).
