I am making the following submition
TG ALFA TAG DISCRIPTION
9169 PFA RIC "Rapid Intervention Crew"

I am hearing them using it again this morning
and they used that term "RIC" when talking to command so Ill assume
this would be correct label any opinions ?

It happens after a mayday on same TG so I am not possitive on if that is automatic as to the figher fighter who sends the mayday, does he have to change channels or is this in conjunction with command perhaps a fire fighter here can explain

RIC= "Rapid Intervention Crew" or "Rapid Intervention Team" This will be a crew who is established strictly for the purpose of rescuing emergency personnel. Some form of RIC is required by NFPA 1500 and CFR 291910. They will assemble a collection of rescue tools and spare breathing apparatus. They cannot be used for firefighting unless a new crew is detailed to take their place. These people can be rotated as relief to the fire if another crew is detailed as the RIC. Note: in some areas this may be a "Rapid Intervention Group" (RIG) but this can be confused with the fact that some regions refer to apparatus as "Rigs". A call on the radio for a "rig to the north side" might confuse a mutual aid company.

Luke,

it seems more specific than just training all traffic Ive heard involves fire personnel doing the mayday thing and then the RIC team tells command they are going

Our radios are programmed so that if the "man down" button is hit, the radio automatically switches to the RIT TG (and alerts dispatch, too), and the mic is open for about 30 seconds. The designated RIT always has at least one radio tuned to the RIT TG, and the RIT is always in close proximity to the IC. Our RIT TG is also encrypted.

Unless the news has a lot of firefighter deaths/injuries in the past day, it makes a little more sense that this is still a training channel.

I have never heard of many fire departments that have a dedicated "RIC(RIT)-only" channel. Some move the RIT team to a second talkgroup during a rescue effort.

Rdale , Yes we all know its training , its the TG that is getting set up this TG was listed as larimer future use . we are just trying to pin down an appropriate TAG for 9169

sounds to me that Bobs suggestion of how they are doing it makes the most sense....

I heard some of that training a few days ago How about a tag "RIT\Training" - and I hope it is always training but it seems if some sort of automation is used to switch to that TG, for a rescue, then the use of the TG is not just training.

I am leaving it simply as "Larimer County Fire Training"...

If you look at the state system, all the larger depts. have at least one training TG.

They all constantly practice for worst case scenarios...Mayday, using the RIT,
Etc. You will hear it on all the exercises. That is why I have them all locked-out. (So I don't call MNN in a panic !)

Why in the world would they put actual emergency RIT traffic on a training TG. Seems to me, that would be a disaster waiting to happen.
