on the www.strongsignals.com page they are offering the below pices at scanners unlimited. I don't keep up too much with RS pricing but thought you RS scanner fans looking to buy one of these could use the info.

Glenn Cohen of Scanners Unlimited writes in with the February Strong Signals' Reader Special: From now until the end of this month, and while supplies last, anyone who mentions this ad at the time of placing an order for a BC296D will receive a special price of $519.95 (a savings of $30), and for a PRO-96, receive a special price of $459.95 (a savings of $ 40)!

I take it the subject should have read "96 and 296 price drop?"

While I have no personal experience with this, I would caution anyone buying very expensive Radio Shack products that the warrenty on those products is pretty specific about where the product is purchased. Some people found this out when they tried to get the upgrade done on the Pro-96. Here is an extract from the Pro-96 warranty:
...under normal use for one (1) year from the date of purchase from RadioShack company-owned stores and authorized RadioShack franchisees and dealers.
If you plug in the zip code from Scanner's Unlimited in the RS Store locater, you will not be given Scanner's Unlimited as a store handling RS products.

Are you saying SU is not an authorized dealer?

While I can't speak about Scanners Unlimited being an authorized Radio Shack dealer (because I don't know), I can say this:

I have purchased from Scanners Unlimited quite a few times in person and once or twice over the phone. Glenn is one of the nicest and most reputable people you will ever meet and he truly takes the time to make sure you have everything you need.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Scanners Unlimited again and if you are ever in the area, it's fun to stop by and oogle all the radios, antennas, ham gear, books, and old scanners along the walls.

No Rob, I am not saying that. What I am saying is the RS site doesn't list them as an authorized dealer. As you well remember from the Pro-96 upgrade topics, there were some people who did not get the upgrade because they did not buy from a company-owned store or an authorized dealer. $500 is a chunk of change to be putting on the line. And understand, I am not saying anything about Scanner's Unlimited as a dealer of equipment or the personnel who work there, I am just saying caution should be excercised as Radio Shack's warranty is pretty specific and they generally follow it. Uniden's warranty does not contain such stipulations.

I actually did get the upgrade in mine, under warranty. I bought my radio from SU, and if needed, Glenn offered to get it taken care of if I couldn't get one of the local stores to send it in.

I eventually found a store that would take it. The only question they asked was "Is it under warranty?". I also had an E-Mail from customer service that told me it would be covered under warranty. That of course was before they found out how much demand there was for the upgrade at that point.
