9600 Baud Reception

I just began receiving 9600 baud comms from Michigan's MPSCS on my 796D. I noticed the display will switch from NFM to DAT when I pick something up. Is this normal for this type of reception? I do receive the Ohio MARCS..... and that one will switch from NFM to P25 display.....
Just curious as I never received any 9600 comms before.
