Hello all, I am a new scanner user, and have some questions on programing the pro-2096 for michigan 800. All the towers in my area as do the rest of the state have several freq. and one control channel. Do I only program the control channel or all of the tower freq's. And do I program all local towers in, I have serveral close by, please help and suggest any other info.

Yes, you should just need to program the Primary Control Channels, and you may want to program the Secondary Control Channel as well, should they need to switch for some reason.

If you obtain your info from RR Database, they make it easy. The Primarys are in red, and the secondarys are in blue. The remaining are in black, and can be ignored.

If you only program one tower, you may be missing some traffic. It's a complex system, and some towers share comms with other towers, some don't. So as a rule, it's best to program all the towers you think are within receiving range.

I have a Pro-96 and in banks 7 & 8 I have the Michigan files that came with the scanner in the V-scanner programed, I also have Win96 and it was well worth the money to help making programing easier. Since you are a donating member, if you have Win96 and use it to access the database here you can choose what sites you want to listen to and also what talk groups you want. I leave banks 7 & 8 in open mode and I have bank 1 in closed mode with the sites and talk groups here in my area. Since getting my scanner in January of this year, it no longer has the factory supplied info in the V-scanner. I have what I want saved there and still have room for lots more. One night on my way home from work in Lansing I heard what I thought was a big car chase on one of the MSP talk groups. Turned out to be cadets in training on high speed car chases, and this was around 11:30 at night. Too bad I was going west on 96 and not east, would have been interesting to watch.
